Top Wedding Trends for 2012
There are fewer traditional wedding trappings. Couples have been moving away from “tradition-for-tradition’s sake” for several years now, and this trend is continuing. The focus is upon personalization of the wedding look, music, and details; personalizing every aspect of your wedding to reflect your own interests and personalities.
Wedding gowns are gaining textures. For the past several seasons we have seen a trend in splashes of color, lots of bling, and a great deal of feminine detailing surrounding the wedding. In keeping with the subtly luxurious tone of wedding trends this year, gowns are following suit. Wedding gowns are adding some of the same visually interesting and rich textures.
Vintage or heirloom hair combs are really hot. Instead of traditional veils, brides are happily reusing these old items. They are great for the environment and also an excellent way to incorporate something special from a loved one.
Traditional wedding fixtures give way to crafty and do-it-yourself items. DIY and handmade wedding related items continue to grow in popularity as they become easier to access and more affordable. Major craft retailers and reputable online sources such as etsy.com offer a wide variety of options for the bride and groom.
Wedding colors are more creative. Bold colors are the thing for Spring! Shades that are a bit punchier than pastel but not quite jewel-toned are making a big statement this year.
Weddings are slimmer and trimmer, so toss out the tchotchkes! More and more couples are choosing to provide their wedding guests with a dessert bar, a candy bar, cigars and a signature drink over the elaborate centerpieces and giveaways. Souvenir photo booth picture strips in lieu of the traditional wedding favor trinkets are a ton of fun!
Simpler wedding cakes as opposed to extravagant and costly whimsical designs in years past are what’s happening this year. Wedding cakes this season will be scaled back to more modest designs with all edible elements.
Intimate weddings are going strong so you can scale back the wedding invitations. Although wedding budgets have been beginning to recover in 2011, a return to the traditional lengthy guest list will not make a comeback and time soon.
